Step Up Now (SUN)
Step Up Now aims to provide young people aged 14 and 15 with nationally recognised training, combined with integrated learning support measures and foundation skills, that will enable them to successfully transition to employment and/or further education and training.
Objectives:
The Step Up Now (SUN) Program provides a structured, supportive environment that builds trust and delivers consistent, wrap-around support. Clients are supported through weekly one-on-one case management and each participant receives an individualised plan that addresses their unique risks, needs, strengths, and goals.
The SUN program will undertake a range of activities designed to help young people reconnect and recommit to education or possible consider potential employment.
SUN provides a 5-month delivery model funded by the Queensland Government and has a focus to get youth ‘back on track’.
The program will offer:
Nationally recognised training to gain qualifications (including foundation skills) up to Certificate 1 level
Integrated learner support including career advice, job preparation skills and case management
The SUN program has a goal to assist young people to recommit to a more positive future and remain committed to ongoing education or move forward with an employment opportunity.
Target Groups:
The Step Up Now Program targets 14- and 15-year-old young people who:
Are making poor choices and undertaking risk taking behaviours
Have disengaged or are highly at risk of disengaging from education
Are displaying anti-social behaviours
Are struggling to remain connected to families or their communities
