Our Commitment to
Child Safety and Wellbeing

At the Downs Industry Schools Co-Op (DISCO), the safety, wellbeing, and inclusion of all children and young people are at the heart of everything we do.

We are dedicated to creating environments where every young person feels safe, supported, valued, and empowered to reach their potential. We recognise our responsibility to protect children and young people from all forms of harm, abuse, and neglect, and we take this responsibility with the utmost seriousness.

Our commitment includes:

Zero tolerance for child abuse or harm. We actively work to prevent, identify, and respond to risks and incidents that may compromise the safety and wellbeing of young people.

  • Empowering young voices. We listen to and respect the views of children and young people, involving them in decisions that affect their lives.

  • Respect and inclusion. We celebrate diversity and are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children and young people with disability.

  • Safe and skilled people. Our staff and volunteers are carefully selected, trained, and supported to always uphold our child safety values and practices.

  • Strong governance and accountability. We have clear policies, codes of conduct, and reporting procedures to ensure child safety concerns are managed promptly, respectfully, and transparently.

  • Continuous improvement. We regularly review and strengthen our practices to maintain the highest standards of child safety and wellbeing.

We understand that keeping children and young people safe is everyone’s responsibility — and at DISCO, it is central to who we are and how we serve our community.
