DISCO Team Members Brave Wild Weather to Support the Homeless

On the 24th of October a group from DISCO led by Site Coordinator Tess Gavin braved rain and windy conditions joining hundreds of others supporting Base Services with the annual Hike for the Homeless.

The hike, held at Jubilee Park annually, is supported by major sponsor the Armstrong Auto Group and other partners including the Newlands Group, HSR Express and Homes Smash Repairs.

The event at a fund raising target of $50K and as at the writing of this story the total raised had reached $58,101.

Hike for the Homeless is aimed at raising awareness of homelessness in Toowoomba and raises much needed funds to ensure the Basement Soup Kitchen can continue to provide lunch time meals, blankets, clothing and essential services to people who are homeless or at high risk of homelessness in Toowoomba.

DISCO CEO Mike Paton stated;

"I want to thank members of my team who gave up their time and committed to the hike as they do every year. The hike was hard work but made me think about the challenges faced by individuals in our community who struggle every day without access, in many cases, to a safe space to sleep. I acknowledge the great work done by Base Services every day to support people who face homelessness on a daily basis.

I also want to acknowledge and thank DISCO team member Tess Gavin who coordinated our organisation’s involvement".
