The Downs Industry Schools Co-Op (DISCO) and Harristown State High School started working on a potential new partnership late last year with the goal of giving young people the option to continue their studies whilst developing a link to career development and employment through DISCO.
The Jobs through Education and Training Program (JET) commenced formally on the 5th of May and involves a group of young men and women who will undertake two days at DISCO each week and the remaining three days at school undertaking both subjects and other real world sessions.
Both organisations are now excited to announce that the program has formally ‘taken off’!
Site Manager at DISCO James St Mrs Annie White said “We are excited and a little nervous as we embark on this new partnership with a range of stakeholders including parents, school representatives and of course the students of Harristown. We have an innovative program that we feel will help young people to consider their future and use this opportunity to develop plans for their future career”.
Deputy Principal of Harristown State High School Ms Helen Parker also commented on this new program. “We have young people who sometimes need to explore other ways to learn and the practical model proposed by DISCO which involves our young people ultimately experiencing the world of work is something we feel will genuinely support and assist our students.
