Employment (YES)

DISCO recognizes that many young people may be disadvantaged in the labour market, and may require additional assistance to find and maintain meaningful employment. The ‘YES’ Program involves one-on-one assistance from a DISCO employment officer which is provided to the job seeker free of charge. This assistance includes a detailed assessment of the job seeker's capabilities, which may help them to identify any barriers to employment and help to customise their efforts in looking for work.

The YES program would include individualised and tailored assistance in the areas of:

  • Career advice, goal setting & transition planning
  • Job Search training – resume and application writing; interview skills; dealing with employment agencies, Group training, Job Network Members, & Centrelink
  • Job placement
  • Living Skills Training – Money Minded training, self esteem building, communication, dress & grooming, attitude & assertion skills
  • Links with a database of over 800 employers
  • Information on TAFE courses and links with TAFE career counselling
  • Post placement support

Clients may be eligible for FREE training to support the employment preparation with funding made available by the Department of Employment & Industrial Relations through this contract.

To be eligible for assistance clients must be:

  • 17 - 24 years old
  • Not engaged in employment or training
  • Not involved in Intensive Support, Personal Support Program, or receiving a Disability Support Pension
